J.C.D. Australia
J.C.D. Australia was created to promote greater understanding and ties between
the Japanese and Australian coal industries. It has been involved in the
Australian thermal coal market for twenty five years through The Blair Athol
Project and Port Waratah Coal Services Limited.
• J.C.D. Australia Pty Ltd was established in 1980 as a wholly owned subsidiary
company of Japan Coal Development Co., Ltd. (JCD) It administers and carries
out development and production of thermal coal in Australia. Through JCD
Australia, JCD invests in the Australian Coal Industry.
• JCDA has a 3.4167% participation
stake in The Blair Athol Project in Queensland. Blair Athol produces around
twelve million tons of thermal coal per year, approximately seven of which is
exported to electric power companies in Japan.
• JCDA also assists with the operations of Port Waratah Coal Services Limited
(PWCS) in Newcastle, a key partner in the coal chain from coal mines in the
Hunter Valley to power stations in Japan.
• In January 2007, JCDA signed an agreement to participate in the Clermont Joint Venture along with Rio Tinto, Mitsubishi Development and Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (J-Power).
