Australia Pty Ltd was established in 1980 as a wholly owned subsidiary company
of Japan Coal Development Co., Ltd. (JCD) It administers and carries out
development and production of thermal coal in Australia. Through JCD Australia,
JCD invests in the Australian Coal Industry.
JCDA was
created to promote greater understanding and ties between the Japanese and
Australian coal industries. It has been involved in the Australian thermal coal
market for twenty five years through The Blair Athol Project and Port Waratah
Coal Services Limited.

Projects
|
The
Blair Athol Coal Mine commenced production in 1984 and in FY 2006
produced approximately 10 million tones of steaming coal. J.C.D. Australia
became a Blair Athol Coal joint venture partner in 1982.
Clermont Coal Mine Project
In January 2007, Rio Tinto Coal Australia announced the development of the 190 million tonne Clermont thermal coal deposit as a successor to Blair Athol Mine. JCD Australia became a Clermont Coal joint venture partner in 2007.
Port
Waratah Coal Services Limited was united with Kooragang Coal Load Ltd
in June 1990. JCD is now a 4.104% shareholder of the unified PWCS, which has
one of the largest coal loading facilities in the world.
