Japan Coal Development
J.C.D. Australia was created to promote greater understanding and ties between
the Japanese and Australian coal industries. It has been involved in the
Australian thermal coal market for twenty five years through The Blair Athol
Project and Port Waratah Coal Services Limited.
• Japan Coal Development Co., Ltd (JCD) was established on 23 January, 1980 by 10 major electric power companies in Japan to promote investment in the Australian coal industry.
• The objectives of JCD are to invest in coal mines and related infrastructure in order to maintain a stable supply for the Japanese electric power industry.
• JCD also represents Japanese electric power and cement industries in the negotiation and implementation of the long-term coal trade agreement with China.
• JCD acts as the negotiator for Japanese thermal coal users at the Japan-China Long Term Trade Agreement talks and is in charge of ship allocation and delivery.
