Port Waratah Coal Services Limited
• In 1982 JCD became involved in Kooragang Coal Load Ltd. (KCL) which operates the third loader at the port of Newcastle, representing the Japanese electric power industry with a 7% shareholding.
• In June 1990 KCL and the Port Waratah Coal Services Ltd (PWCS), which had operated the Second Loader, were united.
• As a result JCD is now a 4.104% shareholder of the unified PWCS, which has one of the largest coal loading facilities in the world.
• According to the PWCS Annual Report 2007, capacity at PWCS was at 102Mtpa, during which time 84.8 million tonnes of coal were handled through its Carrington and Kooragang Terminals. Of this throughput, 65% was sent to Japan.
•
PWCS is currently
undergoing "Project 3Exp" - a new expansion
which will take its overall capacity to 113Mtpa.
The Project is expected to be completed by
the end of 2009.
